Trade between China and Russian-speaking countries — Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and beyond — is growing faster than ever, and with it the demand for graduates who understand both worlds. Studying in southern China's Greater Bay Area (GBA) puts you inside the world's largest manufacturing and export region, and gives you a degree plus Chinese language skills that employers on both sides of the border actively want.
All tuition figures below come from the universities' official international fee schedules.
Two Routes: English-Taught or Chinese-Taught
Route 1 — English-taught degrees (no Chinese required)
- South China University of Technology (QS #377): English-taught bachelor's programs from ¥26,000/yr; English-taught master's in engineering ¥34,000/yr; MBA International Business ¥44,500/yr. IELTS 5.5 for bachelor's, 6.0 for master's. Application fee ¥450, deadline June 30, 2027.
- Jinan University (QS #540, Guangzhou): Computer Science ¥30,000/yr, Finance ¥28,000/yr, International Economics & Trade ¥28,000/yr, International Journalism ¥28,000/yr — all English-taught, deadline May 31, 2027 (Phase 2).
- Shenzhen University (QS #452): International Economics & Trade ¥26,000/yr and International Business Administration ¥30,000/yr in English.
Route 2 — Chinese-taught degrees (lowest tuition)
- Guangzhou University: Engineering, Business and Chinese Language bachelor's at ¥18,000–20,000/yr — and zero application fee. Master's ¥20,000–22,000/yr. Deadline April 30, 2027.
- Guangdong University of Technology: Engineering, Computer Science and Materials Science at ¥21,000/yr; Business Administration ¥18,000/yr. Deadline June 30, 2026 for the current cycle.
- Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering: Agriculture, Food Science and Horticulture at ¥14,000/yr.
Chinese-taught admission generally requires HSK 4–5. If you don't have it yet, a Chinese language year is a smart investment — read our guide to the best places to learn Mandarin in China.
The language advantage: A graduate who speaks Russian and Chinese — with a Chinese degree in engineering, logistics or trade — is exactly the profile that China–Eurasia trade companies compete for. Learning Chinese while studying in China costs a fraction of what private language schools charge back home.
Why Choose the Greater Bay Area?
- Inside China's export engine. Guangzhou and Shenzhen host the factories, trading companies and tech firms that drive China's trade with Eurasia — meaning relevant internships and part-time work.
- Mild climate and high living standards. Southern China avoids the harsh winters of northern cities like Harbin or Beijing.
- Established international student communities. Jinan University alone has enrolled international students for decades, with support services built around them.
Scholarships for Students from Russia and Central Asia
- CSC Chinese Government Scholarships — full or partial funding available at SCUT, Jinan, Shenzhen University, Guangzhou University and nearly every other GBA institution.
- Guangdong Government Scholarship — around ¥10,000, offered across Guangdong province.
- University scholarships — including Presidential Scholarships at SYSU/SZU/SCUT and HITSZ awards of up to 100% tuition plus ¥1,000/month.
See our CSC Scholarship 2026 guide for how the application layers work.
Admission Requirements
- Academic: Secondary school certificate (attestation/№ form for Russia, Certificate of Completed Secondary Education for Kazakhstan and other CIS states) for bachelor's; a bachelor's diploma for master's programs.
- English route: IELTS 5.5–6.0 or TOEFL 68–80 depending on program.
- Chinese route: HSK 4–5 for degree admission (HSK 4 ≥ 180 is a common minimum).
- Visa: X1 for degree programs — requirements explained in our X1 vs X2 visa guide.
Cost of Living
Expect ¥2,500–4,000 per month for rent, food and transport in Guangzhou or Shenzhen; cities like Foshan, Jiangmen and Shantou cost less. Dormitories typically range from ¥3,500 to ¥8,000 per year. At the most affordable universities, total annual cost (tuition + accommodation + living) can stay under ¥50,000 — far below equivalent options in Europe or North America.
